Windows Phone Marketplace is where users can browse and download applications and games for their Windows Phone devices. As of October 2011, there are around than 36,000 apps, more than half of which are downloadable for free. What’s nice with Windows Phone Marketplace is that Microsoft actually checks the quality of apps and games before they are uploaded
To make it easier to browse through these apps and games, the Marketplace has categorized these apps and games into the following:
Apps:
- entertainment
- music + video
- tools + productivity
- lifestyle
- kids + family
- news + weather
- travel + navigation
- health + fitness
- photo
- social
- sports
- personal finance
- business
- books + reference
- education
- government + politics
Games:
- action + adventure
- card + board
- classics
- educational
- family
- music
- platformer
- puzzle + trivia
- racing + flying
- role playing
- shooter
- sports + recreation
- strategy + simulation
- xbox companion
Through the Windows Phone Marketplace, you can see the top 10 paid and free downloads. Clicking on an app or a game will give you more information about it such as its description, screenshots, price, ratings and reviews. You could even like or tweet about it to share it to everyone.
How do you access the Windows Phone Marketplace? There are two ways:
Phone Marketplace
Web Marketplace
There’s also a new feature called Marketplace Extra where the Windows Phone team chooses apps and games every month. This makes it easier to discover nice, useful, and download worthy apps and games. They also feature some of these apps and games in their official YouTube channel. Here’s one of their videos showing Windows Phone Marketplace in action:
