Happy Social Media Day 2012

Posted on July 5, 2012

Last June 30, the world celebrated Social Media Day.  Organized by Mashable, this annual event recognizes the digital revolution happening right before our eyes.  In the Philippines, it was celebrated in Manila, Quezon City, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, and Davao.

One of the many nice things with Windows Phones is that it is a great social smartphone.  People Hub displays not only your friend’s contact information, but links with it all of the social media content, whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, or Windows Live.  Instead of just calling or sending an SMS, you can also write on his Facebook wall or send her a tweet.  The Me tile allows you to share content easier to different social networks all at the same time.  With Pictures Hub, one press of the camera button, and your camera is ready.  After taking a picture, all it takes is a few taps as sharing pictures is integrated in the camera.

While social media is very well integrated with Windows Phone, there are lots of other social media apps that can be downloaded in the  Marketplace. Just the week after Social Media Day, three popular social media apps got updated:

Version 2.7 fixes how notifications are displayed.  Instead of the created time, it is arranged by updated time.  It now recognizes the “except” clause for custom privacy settings.

Version 1.5 now supports notifications.  With this update, you will be notified when you receive mentions, retweets, direct messages, and new followers.  Live tile will also update based on these notifications.

Version 1.6 fixes some minor bugs, including the issue where the stats are not being displayed.

Imagine a world where Filipino students make a difference. The Philippines will be sending a representative to the Imagine Cup 2012 in Sydney, Asutralia. Team Divided By Zero will competing in the Software Design category with their entry, KidCamp.
