Posted on February 23, 2011

Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 is an image organizer with editing and social networking site features. It can be used to view pictures and run a slideshow.   From there you can also access the other features by clicking on “Edit, organize, or share.”

After clicking on the “Edit, organize, or share” button, you will be brought to the gallery view where you can select and manage the pictures in your album.   Finding pictures is easier as they can be sorted by date, rating, tags, or whether you have published or edited it.  You can also sign in to your Windows Live account.   In Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011, you can tag pictures so if you have synced your Facebook account, you can see your Facebook contacts in the tag list.

You can also create panoramas or merge pictures with the Photo Fuse feature.   Just select the pictures that you want to use and let Windows Live Photo Gallery do the magic for you.  In addition, you can also share your pictures to your Facebook, Flickr, and Windows Live SkyDrive as well as email it to your friends. Other additional features and service providers are available by downloading plug-ins.

Double clicking on a picture will bring you the editor tool.  There are lots of functions like cropping, adjusting the brightness and contrast, a histogram, and effects like black and white and sepia filters.   What’s nice is that even if you have saved the picture, you can still revert back to the original file.

Windows Live Photo Gallery is part of Windows Live Essentials.  You can get it for free here.
